Information about Northamptonshire Police and Crime Panel
The Police Reform & Social
Responsibility Act 2011 introduced new structural arrangements for
policing, including the replacement of police authorities with
directly-elected Police & Crime Commissioners (PCC) for each
police area. The Act also required the Council to establish a
Police & Crime Panel (PCP) to scrutinise the Northamptonshire
PCC in order to promote openness in the transaction of police
business. The Northamptonshire PCP has the following functions:
Reviewing and responding to the PCCs Draft Police & Crime Plan,
Proposed Precept and Annual Report; Reviewing and responding to
proposed senior appointments; Reviewing the proposed removal by the
PCC of the Chief Constable; Power to suspend the PCC if charged
with a serious criminal offence; and Scrutinising decisions and
actions taken by the PCC in discharging their functions.
