Report of the Temporary Assistant Director – Finance and Procurement and Deputy Section 151 Officer

 

Purpose of report

 

This report summarises the Council’s Finance Monitoring position as at the end of October 2020.

Minutes:

The Committee considered a report from the Temporary Assistant Director – Finance and Procurement and Deputy Section 151 Officer which summarised the Council’s Finance Monitoring position as at the end of October 2020.

 

In introducing the report, the Temporary Assistant Director – Finance and Procurement advised that the Council was currently forecasting a surplus of £179k, however this included costs for Covid-19 total directorates of £2,162k, executive matters of £3,912k, less grant funding of £1,763k, Business Rates of £3,847k and a draft surplus 2019/2020 of £530k.

 

In response to questions from Members regarding Business Rates Collection, the Temporary Assistant Director – Finance and Procurement explained that the Covid-19 pandemic had led to difficulties in the collection of Business Rates due to financial strain encountered by local businesses, however the Council had a sufficient level of reserves to cope with a wide variation of collection outcomes.

The Chairman provided a verbal update to Members on the future business of the Committee and advised that the 27 January 2021 meeting of the Committee would go ahead as scheduled in order to consider the December 2020 Finance Monitoring Report.
